DBT TIPP Skills

DBT TIPP skills can be lifesavers. Sometimes emotions are so intense they take away our ability to use other coping skills. TIPP (or TIP) skills won’t take the emotions away altogether. However, they help reduce the intensity to a level where we can use other strategies to cope with difficult situations and feelings.

TIPP Skill Breakdown

  • T – Temperature: Dive Reflex
  • I – Intense Exercise: 10 minutes plus 10 minutes
  • P – Paced Breathing: 4 in / 6 out
  • P – Paired Progressive Muscle Relaxation: “Robot / Ragdoll” technique
